Home Remedy for Shingles
using ACV

French translation

As a home remedy for shingles, apple cider vinegar is ranked as the most popular by Earth Clinic participants.

What is Shingles?

Shingles is a viral infection that often results in a painfull skin rash caused by the vericella-zoster virus, just like chicken pox. In fact, after a chicken pox episode, this virus can lay dormant, undetected, in the nerve tissue close to the brain and spinal cord.

Many years later, in times of stress, or when the immune system is low, the resting vericella-zoster virus can reactivate as shingles.

People experiencing an outbreak of shingles often suffer pain and burning followed, a few days later, by the formation of a red itchy rash. This rash can be located anywhere from head to foot on one side of the body.

Apple Cider Vinegar for Shingles

The following home remedy is based on anecdotal evidence. No controlled medical trials have been conducted so far.

Home Remedy for Shingles using
 Apple Cider Vinegar

This basic ACV shingles remedy is a 2 step process:

  • 1) Drink 1 tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar mixed in an 8 ounce glass of water or fruit juice three times a day.

  • 2) Soak cotton balls or gaze in straight apple cider vinegar and apply to the shingles rash for 30 minutes, 3 times a day.

Drinking the apple cider vinegar tonic has been reported to quickly lessen shingles pain while the topical application of ACV to the rash helps remove the itchiness and limit the spreading.

When applying the ACV to the rash, some people have reported feeling a burning sensation that could last for a minute or two before getting relief from the itchiness.

Patricia Bragg recommends taking a warm bath into which 1 cup of apple cider vinegar has been added, to help soothe shingles itching. (Page 24 of her book "Apple Cider Vinegar - Miracle Health System")
