Gout Home Remedies
using Apple Cider Vinegar
French translation

"Easy to use, natural gout home remedies!"

Gout home remedies involving apple cider vinegar, either ingested or applied topically, can be used as natural alternative treatments to help relieve gout symptoms.

Even though there is no scientific research evaluating the effect of ACV on gout, many people on the net have attested to apple cider vinegar's effectiveness.

What is Gout?

Gout is a form of arthritis that causes intense joint pain, often affecting the large joint of the big toe. Gout can also occur in the hands, wrists, knees, ankles and feet. The affected joints become red, inflamed and very tender. The symptoms occur suddenly and often at night.

High levels of uric acid in the blood can lead to urate crystal formation and it's the accumulation of these crystals around joints that causes gout.

Conventional treatment involves taking medications such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), steroid medications and colchicine.

To reduce the pain and inflammation of a gout attack you should try to:

  • Not drink alcoholic beverages
  • Eat less seafood and red meat
  • Reduce the consumption of high fat dairy products
  • Eat less processed food such as white flour and refined sugar

Procedure for Gout Home Remedies
using Apple Cider Vinegar

Unfortunately, conventional medications for gout can cause many uncomfortable side effects and are not always effective.
This has prompted many to try alternative treatments such as apple cider vinegar for gout relief as outlined in the following two procedures:

1) Apple Cider Vinegar Drink

After taking the ACV drink for just two days, many people have reported a reduction in swelling and pain of the affected area.

Mix the following ingredients into an 8 ounce glass of water and drink 3 times a day with meals:
  • 2 teaspoons raw honey (Optional - not recommended for diabetics)
  • 2 teaspoons organic apple cider vinegar (Use an organic ACV which contains the "mother of vinegar")

2) Apple Cider Vinegar Soak

This can be used along with the ACV drink or by itself.
  • Soak a cloth in undiluted ACV and wrap it around the affected area for at least 15 minutes. Or simply immerse the toe or other affected area in a vinegar bath made by mixing 1 cup (250 ml) of ACV into 3 cups (750 ml) of water.

What if Vinegar is not Enough?

As the comments below show, apple cider vinegar can be very effective in relieving gout symptoms for many people. But not everybody will experience the same level of relief with ACV.

If you are looking to cure your gout through dietary and other natural means, then I highly recommend you check out the e-book written by Lisa McDowell called "Cure Gout Now".

Lisa, the wife of a former long-suffering gout victim, explains how you can go about curing gout through lifestyle and diet changes and she includes numerous sample gout recipes.

The 59 page e-book can be instantly downloaded and comes with a full 8 week "no-quibble" money back guarantee.

Hi  buddies,
I am writing from Singapore

Can anybody advise me what do you all  mean by bath with acv to remove pain?

Thanks in advance,
Cheers!

Reply from apple-cider-vinegar-benefits.com

Hello Tony Feng Boon,

To help reduce gout pain, apple cider vinegar can be either ingested or applied directly to the affected area. Some people do both.

The apple cider vinegar (ACV) bath or soak to remove pain in the gout area (such as the big toe) can be done as follows:

"Soak a cloth in undiluted ACV and wrap it around the affected area for at least 15 minutes. Or simply immerse the toe or other affected area in a vinegar bath made by mixing 1 cup (250 ml) of ACV into 3 cups (750 ml) of water."

Hope that helps,

Hello,

Recently, I had a gout attack in my big toe.

Two days later, the swelling and pain were still there.

I learned by chance about the benefits of apple cider vinegar. I had a glass of apple cider vinegar in the late afternoon.

The next morning, I had no pain, even when pressing with my fingers. My toe was no longer red and was no longer swollen.

I recently started taking ACV (today actually) and was looking for some positive stories about its use. So far I haven't been disappointed. I'm not having a major attack at the moment, but it's there. I not only get it in my big toe, but it moves all around my foot and into my ankle (not recommended) and lately my knee. Too much beer over the holidays...

For those of you that have had ongoing pain that you can't get rid of, Prednisone has been a miracle drug for me. I have tried a lot of things, but when an attack gets severe, Prednisone takes the pain and swelling away for me; usually within hours. It's a steroid and a prescription is needed, but I always try to have an emergency script on hand. I've been told it's not healthy to take very often, but for those unbearable attacks it's been a lifesaver for me.

Best of luck to everyone!!!

I've had my first gout attack ever and found this site. Immediately I wanted to try this natural remedy for the pain.

Got Bragg ACV, black cherry concentrate and used agave syrup that I had to sweeten.

Does anyone know if the agave is like honey in the way it enters your body or should I be using raw honey?

And is it alright to mix with the black cherry concentrate?

I have had pains in my left foot since 2000. I just put up with the continual broken toe feeling.  In December 2010 I went to the doctor as my right foot was giving me pain.

Immediately diagnosed with gout, confirmed with blood test and taken off one of my high blood pressure tablets. Right foot back to normal left foot slowly got more painful and now after 10 years I realised that I had been suffering from gout.

My wife pointed out that during the last two weeks of our holiday I was pain free and that due to a mix up I was not taking any Statins. (Did not pack enough for a month.) Immediate I stopped taking my Statins and the pain went away. The only strange thing was a funny noise that I kept hearing when I was walking. A noise that I had not heard for a while.  Eventually I looked over my left shoulder expecting to see someone walking close behind me, no it was me making the noise my left heel was clicking on the pavement and I was walking properly the first time in ten years.  That said I'm in good health but I do get the odd gout attack which I blame on taking statins for all these years.

Two weeks ago, we traveled down south to see family in South of England.  Had a couple of lunches out at local pubs and enjoyed a couple of pints of a Black Ale. (You might be ahead of me here and you might know what is coming.)  Got home and within two days severe pain in left foot.  Ignored it as much as possible, cut the grass, washed the car, got on with life.  Last week, I experienced a severe gout attack and finally realised that I had consumed dark beer. I just was not thinking as I have been gout free for ages.

Thursday night, it did not matter what I did with my left foot. It was continual throbbing pain and pain killers were not helping.  On Friday - Good Friday - I read your article on ACV. This looked too good to be true but the side of my left foot was looking like Mount Vesuvius with molten hot lava all around.

One of our local shops had organic ACV, my wife went down and bought a bottle. Two teaspoons, honey and 8 oz of water.  Well ...... oh ... a rancid Riesling that brought tears to my eyes.  Had another two doses during the evening. 10 o'clock at night I was still in severe pain but the swelling was clearly going down. I had toes!!

Saturday morning foot painful but not as swollen; two more doses of ACV and I could stand on my left foot.  Sore but I could stand.  Had a further two doses and when I went to bed I lay there pain free.

Today Sunday, my foot is looking good, not painful, but sore in places and I can walk better. Vesuvius is more like "Crack A Toe Ahhhh".  I can laugh now; I was not laughing on Friday.

May I thank you for the advice and thank all who posted. Normally, I would have ignored the advice as a scam. Yet, those who posted were clearly sufferers.

Thanks to you all.

Believe it !!! This apple cider vinegar is no joke, it works for gout .

I have been taking it since my first gout attack a year ago, after using apple cider vinegar, no more gout.

I went on vacation a week ago and forgot my apple cider and guess what? Yes it was back, gout.

Got back now and started taking it again and in two days it was gone.

I started using ACV 2 teaspoons 3 times a day just yesterday and already my toe/foot feels so much better!

I can't believe how fast and well it worked!

I couldn't get the honey to mix in, so only used it the first time.

8 years ago, I had a gout attack and I treated it with Colchicine.

Until a month ago, everything was fine. Then, I had to use Colchicine again and it took almost a week to be effective, plus fifteen days to forget about the pain.

One month after this attack, my big toe suddenly swelled up and the pain was unreal. I had no more medication.

So, I searched the web for an alternative to drug treatment and I went to the health food store to buy some apple cider vinegar.

Two hours after drinking this beverage, the pain subsided! Incredible. And, 24 hours later, I was walking normally again as if nothing happened.

So, no hesitations, even if the taste of this beverage is not the most pleasant.......

I had a gout attack more than two years ago.

In fact I did not know at the time what it was, I thought I had a fracture because the pain was so intense. The attack was very short and the pain disappeared before I could see a doctor. So the doctor thought it had been a gout attack.

Recently, about a month ago, I experienced a new gout attack. So I was prescribed colchicine.
This time the attack lasted longer and the pain lasted about two weeks. Nothing since.

As my attacks were rare, I didn't think it necessary to bring my medication with me.

I am currently away, on Spring Break, with my kids for a busy week of skiing. Then disaster! An attack when I woke up this morning. Without medication, I'm afraid this will ruin my week.

I desperately sought on the internet, an alternative solution to drugs to ease my crisis. I came across this site and, thankfully, I had in stock (at the cottage) apple cider vinegar.

So I hope the testimonials on this site are true and that this miracle product has the same effect on me. I'm waiting and I hope to put my skis on tomorrow. At the very least, the day after tomorrow. I'll let you know!

apple-cider-vinegar-benefits.com -If you have enough apple cider vinegar with you, try the two different forms of treatment (drinking the ACV tonic and the vinegar bath); that should help you to improve quicker. According to the testimonials that we have received, on this gout home remedy, so far 92% of the users have found this treatment very useful.

I am currently 30, and have had gout flare ups since I was 28. I am in relatively good health and actually have lost a lot of weight recently.

For some reason, the gout came back and has been hitting every few weeks since I started losing weight and eating right. One night, I was directed toward this site and bought some Braggs ACV. On the way to work, mixed it with some V8, and by the middle of my shift, 6 hours later, it had already become tolerable.

I am now drinking it with every meal (mixed with water) and it has kept it away better than the medicine I was prescribed has and I have stopped taking it.

I can’t believe this actually worked so far, and will keep taking this regimen forever if it keeps it away.

Thank you!

I am 5 feet 10 inches tall and weigh 152 pounds, have been suffering from gout for 2 years and I have never been able to managed a gout attack easily.

Some crises lasted for over three weeks even while following a strict diet.

This is my testimony, I had an early acute gout attack four days ago, left foot and ankle swollen and all purple with severe pain that prevented me from sleeping.

After searching the web I came across this website and I immediately sent my wife to buy a bottle of organic cider vinegar then decided to drink a glass of fresh sweetened water with 10 ml of vinegar, 3 times a day, even though the taste of vinegar is hard to accept.

Result, after 2 days, reduced pain and after 4 days the swelling on the foot has decreased and I can almost walk.

O thank you Apple Cider Vinegar for defeating the extreme pain of a gout attack. I am now reassured that I finally have a weapon to combat this life ruining problem.

I do not know if it's psychological, but I had tried everything before taking apple cider vinegar with the mother (bio).

Magically, all symptoms disappeared within 24 hrs.

I had been suffering for at least 15 days. It was awful and now, it's all gone!

Long live apple cider vinegar. It's a magic potion for the relief of gout.

Have had sporadic episodes of gout since I was 20, now 42.

Thought first bout was a spider bite and didn't connect the dots enough to realize that it was gout. Weight has fluctuated from all time high of 220, now at 180, standing 6"0.

Latest and current episode is worst ever despite usual hydration efforts. Tried ACV last night and immediately felt better in some areas. Can now flex toes up and down. Also feel am peeing "better" than when I was purely drinking water.

Issue on hand is major area affected this time/first time is sole of my left foot hence can't put any weight on it hindering mobility.

Am I right to be using the ACV bath AND drinking the ACV w/ water as often as I can whilst this episode lasts? What foods to I eat  in the meantime as have only been eating alfalfa sprouts, papaya and cherries during this episode/last two days. Thanks!

I have been dealing with gout for five years now.  I tried the meds and other things like baking soda water.

Nothing works better for me than Apple Cider Vinegar with The Mother.  I buy BRAGG ORGANIC APPLE CIDER VINEGAR.  I take 3 TBS. each meal.  Gout is gone!

You must try it.  Just don't do it on an empty stomach.  It is powerful stuff and, on an empty stomach, will possibly make you want to puke.

I just read about ACV online last week.

Have been suffering with gout for about 2 yrs, getting more attacks than none. I have had gout for the past three weeks, not able to put my foot in any shoes, sneakers, etc. Very painful.

I went online and read about ACV last week. I went home and started taking it right away:  1 Tbl. ACV, 1 honey, and 8oz of warm water.

My swelling and pain are almost gone and for the first time in three weeks I was able to put my foot in a shoe.

This is a miracle cure straight from God's earth.  All natural.  I will take this for the rest of my life.  Thank you Internet.

I have found that vinegar and honey dose more than relieve gout, it also cleans your veins out but you need the honey to take the vinegar into the blood stream to do it's job.

Honey dose not need to go completely though the digestive system it is absorbed from the stomach and caries the vinegar with it that is why it works better with honey.

I don't drink.. Haven't touched a fish since Ahab had that run-in with his dinner, yet my feet swell, turn red hot and refuses to put one (foot) in front of the other.

Recently have also had knee pain (for no other reason except gout) also sharp pains that shoot up my leg (from the source) in second increments.

I've used ACV with honey, without honey but it does not seem to help (been a week of three per day treatments so far). Also used black cherry concentrate, baking soda mixture (soda/lemon) but still no relief.

I'll keep trying (can't hurt) but I can't seem to get rid of this pain. Have been reading multiple success stories but fail in personal relief.. Any other suggestions out there?

Fellow Gout Sufferers,

Few understand the intense pain associated with gout. I personally have had attacks so bad that I would pray for death. It typically attacks my ankle and Achilles tendon area. Moving the foot is out of the question, much less standing on it. The pain is excruciating and only scalding hot water at the site will help at all. So with that in mind, I was desperate for a natural cure that didn't involve the dreaded side effects of Colchicine.

I can tell you from many years of suffering from gout, that ACV with "The Mother" does work. In my experience it is important to use this particular type of ACV as it seems to be pure and unpasteurized. I have tried the regular ACV that you can buy in any grocery store and it does not seem to work nearly as well.

The key is to drink this regularly as a preventative and, if necessary, aggressively if you feel an attack coming on. Gout sufferers should never be without their supply of ACV with "The Mother". Bragg at GNC is what I specifically use.

I have tried other things like baking soda, honey, cherries, celery seed, etc. It's hard to isolate the specific "key", and perhaps it's a combination of all of these things, but I am CERTAIN ACV is a big component in alleviating my gout pain.

When I have an attack (usually because I have NOT been taking my ACV as a daily preventative) I mix about 5 tablespoons in a large 10 oz cup of water. Sometimes I add aspartame to sweeten it slightly. I have gotten used to the bad taste. I drink 5-8 cups a day and it flushes my system out. Usually the pain and swelling starts to subside after about 8 hours. The gout is completely cleared up within 72 hours. Sometimes i take ibuprofen as well to help with the immediate pain. Be careful not to take more than recommended.

Remember, drinking ACV with "The Mother" frequently throughout the day is crucial in my experience. Keep your foot elevated at night if possible. You may very well be amazed when you wake up the next morning! I know I was. It truly is my miracle cure!

I started using apple cider vinegar as a general health tonic a few years ago, and have not looked back since!

I recently recommended it to my Aunt, for her gout, and since drinking it regularly, she has experienced no pain.

I would particularly recommend using apple cider vinegar "with mother" as this has not been pasteurised and is very beneficial.

Late, due to professional demands, here are some extra info on my "experiences".

As I explained previously, the doctor had prescribed treatment with Allopurinol for three months, started in January and ended in late March.

But my right knee was still painful and it did not prevent a gout attack from occurring in mid-February. Feeling it coming, I had it stopped in 24 by taking a massive dose of Colchimax ... I have a very strong stomach.

I therefore assume that Allopurinol should be more or less effective depending on the subject.

So I began my experience with apple cider vinegar and it very quickly helped my knee.

My method:
2 c. tablespoons (30 ml) apple cider vinegar in a wine glass filled with Vichy Celestine, 2 doses, the first in the morning around 10 am, between breakfast and lunch, and the second one in the evening, 1 hour before bed.

This works for me and may be valid for other people, assuming that vinegar taken with meals is less effective because it is diluted in food.

No more gout since February ( remember that I have not taken Allopurinol since late March)

Results of blood, plasma uric acid measurements, the values must be between 30 and 70:

January 2011: 80
June 2011: 70

So, I came back from a value higher than the upper limit of the allowable range.

The filtering capacity of my kidneys is good (very important with regard to gout):
Clearance calculated as per Cockcroft: 78.03. At 60 there is moderate renal insufficiency. I will explain this further, and its relationship with gout.

Although annoyed ... My doctor still has acknowledged that the apple cider vinegar seemed more effective in my case than Allopurinol. In addition, I lost a little weight.

However, I continue to drink lots of beer and I find myself faced with another problem: an increase in my liver GGT. Nothing serious. However, my doctor told me it was due to the vinegar added to the drinking. So he asked me to stop the vinegar (and drink less beer at the same time) for a few weeks.

The filtering capacity of the kidneys:
It seems that many people with gout have lazy kidneys, which results in poor elimination of uric acid. My doctor asked me to force myself to drink a full glass of water every hour. He told me it was a kind of gymnastics for the kidneys and that it would stimulate them.

Although within the normal range in terms of filtering capacity according to the analysis, I find that I urinated very little in the day. Now I drink lots of water, urinate frequently and am sure that I eliminate more.

I hope this helps. In my case, I have a healthy balanced diet but it is clear that my gout came from my excessive consumption of beer.

I lost my gout pills (almost had a heart attack) and you know what comes next, the ATTACK.

Found lots of positive feedback on the internet about apple cider vinegar and gave it a try. I can walk again and feel great.

I have suffered gout attacks for years, tried apple cider vinegar (two tablespoons in water three times a day). After a week, noticed little improvement.

I re-read all comments and decided to add honey. Noticed big improvement after 1 day. Two weeks of ACV and honey treatment, all symptoms of gout had disappeared.

Word of warning: if you don’t continue the treatment and watch your diet, expect gout to return.

I have found my diet to be a balancing act. Trial and error will soon tell you what you can and can’t eat to stay free from gout attacks.

My foot was very swollen and it hurt so bad that I couldn't put my foot down.

After having tried 2 or 3 types of anti-arthritic creams and emptied a box of anti-inflammatory tablets, I searched the internet.

Since I already had organic apple cider vinegar at home, at 6 o'clock in the morning, I took 2 coffee spoons (5 ml) of apple cider vinegar with 2 coffee spoons (5 ml) of water and 2 coffee spoons (5 ml) of fruit sirup. At 10 o'clock I felt a little better and at that time I doubled the dose, that is to say 4 coffee spoons (10 ml) of each.

I feel much better. I am pretty sure that tonight I will be able to walk like before.

It is like a real miracle. We are treating ourselves with products laying around in our cupboards, and without any side effects!!!

Thanks to apple cider vinegar and thanks also for the advice.

I have been suffering from gout for more than 10 years. I’ve tried everything from bee sting to oral meds. They helped for a while but my gout keeps coming back.

Now I'm on ACV for two weeks. Now I noticed that the tophi I have in my ear hurts and is so red. And my ankle also hurts together with my index finger.

So I took a pain killer (arcoxia) to ease the pain. Can anybody explain what’s happening? Is the ACV working or making my gout worse?

Apple-cider-vinegar-benefits.com- you have not mentioned if you have tried the apple cider vinegar bath in combination with the apple cider vinegar drink.
If you think that the apple cider vinegar that you are taking orally is causing you problems, then you could try just the ACV bath and see if that helps. And, as always, please consult your doctor.

I think the effects and results vary from one person to another. As far as I'm concerned, IT'S THE BEST!

I took Allopurinol as prescribed by my doctor for 6 months. It saved me from acute crises, but my right knee was always sore.

I must say that I have a healthy diet, but I love booze ... And booze is good for uric acid ...

Personally I tried the following remedy since yesterday morning:
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar (not even organic) mixed with half a glass of Vichy Celestin, morning, noon and night.

Believe it or not, yesterday afternoon I was already seeing results!
Today, no more knee pain, I can again do squats without any problems.

I will continue the treatment tomorrow, it will be three days then and I'll see over time.

So I'll take "colchimax" and continue the vinegar at the same time!

Well yes, it's not "Lourdes ".
My cure may possibly take several months!

But a friend of mine tried ACV and found an improvement …
I may have a case too advanced for it to work in 48 hours.

Good luck to all those with the gout!

Victim of a third gout crisis, I tried your recipe - Vinegar/honey/water three times a day.
Results the next day, a stomach pain….worse than the day before.

I do not know if your testimonials are real or posted by vinegar lobbyists but, in any event, it is clear that your potion has no effect! Returning therefore to the starting point: colchicine and patience…..

apple-cider-vinegar-benefits.comAs outlined on our site, the gout home remedy usually gives results within two days, sometimes working in less than 24 hours. Your case could have possibly benefited from an additional 24 hours accompanied by ACV baths, as suggested.
