Hot flashes,
night sweats
and apple cider vinegar

"I am CURED
of the hot flashes caused by MENOPAUSE
thanks to Apple Cider Vinegar.
I sleep well. My night sweats are gone!"

Hot flashes
caused by menopause

Bouffées de chaleurApproximately 80% of North Americain women experience menopausal hot flashes and night sweats to different degree.

Their symptoms typically include sudden feelings of intense heat, particularly in the upper body area (chest, neck and face), a rise of skin temperature (the skin can redden), and sweating that can be profuse and can end with chills. Depending on the person, their frequency will vary from a few times a week to several times a day, and they will last from a few minutes to as much as half an hour.

When hot flashes occur at night, they are referred to as night sweats. The moisture (sometimes called hot flushes) generated by night sweats may happen once or several times through the night. Soaked in their own perspiration, these women wake up in the middle of the night and often have to change their nightwear, pillowcase, sometimes even the whole bedding (!) before going back to sleep.

Treatments of menopausal
hot flashes and night sweats

A- Traditional therapy, supplements, tips

  1. Medical therapy
  • Hormone replacement therapy: estrogen (sometimes mixed with progesterone) is the most efficient medical treatment. However, many health risks are linked to the use of this hormone treatment and it seems to outweigh its benefits.

  • Some antidepressant drugs, such as Venlafaxine (Effexor), Paroxetine (Paxil) and Fluoxetine (Prozac), though less efficient than estrogen, can reduce the frequency of hot flashes.

  • Other drugs, such as Gabapentine (Neurontin), a neurologic medication, and Clonidine (Catapres and others), a high blood pressure medication, have been moderately efficient.

  1. Supplements

Among the supplements used to help hot flashes, we find:

  • Vitamin E; a study on The Effect of Vitamin E on Hot Flashes on Menopausal Women was published 2007 by the «Gynecologic and Obstetric Investigation; vol 64, no 4». An excerp can be read on line. (Web Link)

  • Estrogen plants such as soy and the red clover.

  • Black cohosh.

  • Kava.

  1. Tips, Dietary and lifestyle changes

Practicing or modifying some life habits can also affect the frequency or intensity of hot flashes and have a positive impact on the quality of life of women while they go through this difficult period of their life.

  • Exercise; doing 30 minutes a day of brisk walk, bicycle, or another activity can help regulate the metabolism. However, avoid doing exercise 3 hours before going to bed.

  • Relax; practice some yoga, meditation, relaxation techniques or deep breathing.

  • Do not smoke; cigarette smoking has been linked to an increase in hot flashes.

  • Watch your diet; eat a balanced diet and avoid having too much spicy foods, alcohol, and coffee (and other beverages containing caffeine) because they are susceptible to trigger hot flashes.

  • Try to stay cool; the use of air conditioner of fans can make a big difference for personal comfort (even a small fan turning at

slow speed and projecting air directly at the face). Also, wearing “clothing by layers” that can be gradually lightened off, as need be, during the day can make a huge difference for one’s comfort. Also, drinking liquids, mainly fresh, cool water, will help.

B- Natural home remedies
using apple cider vinegar

On page 59 of her book “Apple Cider Vinegar for Weight Loss and Good Health”, Cynthia Holzapfel recommends the following two natural home remedies for treating night sweats in waning colds and flu, and also mentions that they might be good in helping menopausal women.

• sponge bath before going to bed

• drinking a glass of cider vinegar tonic in the morning to help regulate toxins that the body is trying to eliminate through perspiration

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR TONIC
a Natural Home Remedy
to treat menopausal symptoms

  • 1 - 2 tablespoons (15-30 ml) organic apple cider vinegar
  • diluted in 8 ounces (235 ml) water (or other beverage**)

    Once or twice daily

** It is also possible to dilute apple cider vinegar in vegetable juice, flavored water, fruit juice, tea (herbal or traditional), etc. It’s a matter of taste.

Effectiveness of
apple cider vinegar as a home remedy for hot flashes
based on testimonials

The use of apple cider vinegar as a home remedy to treat menopausal symptoms is still a well kept secret. However, based on the testimonials published on the Internet, the majority of women who have used it have been helped.

For instance the Earth Clinic Web Site (well known in the domain of alternative health) features apple cider vinegar as a popular natural home remedies for hot flashes. According to the site survey (as of May 2012), well over 75% of women respondants were very happy with their results using apple cider vinegar to treat their symptoms. (Web Link)

There are other natural products and procedures can be used to reduce hot flashes and night sweats. The best of them have been detailed by Patty Lynn March in her e-book titled: "How to Extinguish Hot Flashes - the Safe, Natural Way".

We decided to prepare a page highlighting this topic after receiving Ms. Gisèle Dubois’ testimonial about the disappearance of her severe hot flashes, thanks to apple cider vinegar.

Prior to her story, three other people had mentioned having obtained a reduction (1 woman), even the disappearance (2 women) of their symptoms in their testimonial, but it had been as an additional, unexpected benefit.

  • Two of them had submitted testimonials on weight loss:

- Found My Miracle, Thanks to ACV! (click here to read)

- ACV helped suppress my appetite (click here to read)

  • The other one had submitted a testimonial on diabetes:

- Bev, British Columbia, Canada, Septemer 10, 2010 (click here to read)

Based on the anecdotal testimonials of those who used apple cider vinegar as a home remedy for hot flashes and night sweats, one might expect that, taken on a regular basis and depending on the person, the apple cider vinegar tonic could potentially reduce and even eliminate those symptoms.

Furthermore, apple cider vinegar has the big advantage of being a natural product. Hence women suffering from hot flashes now have an effective, first resort alternative treatment to get rid of their symptoms, without having to worry about the possible side effects of drugs.

N.B. You should always rince your mouth if you take the apple cider vinegar tonic between meals or before going to bed, in order to avoid prolonged vinegar contact with the enamel on your teeth.

Apple cider vinegar did nothing for me.

On the other hand, I stopped taking black coffee and to my surprise it worked.

Try it!

I’m a male who is taking hormone treatments for prostrate cancer and was experiencing hot flashes and night sweats.

My radiation oncologist suggested trying ACV for them and after 4 days of drinking 2-3 tablespoons of ACV with 8 ounces of water 1st thing in the morning  I thought I started to see some relief.

On day 5 I saw even better results and my wife agrees that she is seeing less signs of my having the hot flashes.

I’m going to continue drinking it and see what happens.

I found my miracle: ACV for HOT FLASHES!

I am a 54 year old woman, and I have been taking 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of ACV once a day in the morning, for a week now.

I spoke to my husband. I said since I have been taking the ACV, I haven't had any HOT FLASHES or NIGHT SWEATS. Have you noticed that?

He said: "You are right! I have noticed that plus you have slept all night."

So I went to the computer and GOOGLED: "Is ACV good for HOT FLASHES?" And the ANSWER seems to be YES.

I can't answer for anyone else. Except TRY IT!

It certainly worked for me. I'm so Happy! Life and my Nights are much Better now.

As for my Weight I'll come back later with another post on it. But for now, THANK YOU ACV!!!

I have now taken 2 tbsp of organic unfiltered acv twice a day for about two weeks, hoping - but not believing - that it would at least reduce my hot flashes. And IT WORKS!

I no longer wake up in a panic 3-4 times every night burning from inside. I no longer have to grab the nearest sheet of paper or book or whatever to fan myself all of a sudden every now and then throughout the day when this automatic heat sets in (and I can't even begin to tell you how much I hate it).

I have only had hot flashes for a couple of months so I do not think that it is a coincidence that they have stopped now and that it was time for them to  stop anyway.

And I do not think it's thanks to the placebo effect because I really had no expectations that this would work at all, but it simply has to be the acv that does the trick and I would really like to know HOW?

Apple cider Vinegar has literally been a miracle cure for my menopausal hot flashes and night sweats.

I was so desperate for relief I didn't care about the health risks of HRT even with all risks in my immediate family on my mother's side (breast and ovarian cancer, heart attack, stroke, etc.).

Like many others, I spent countless tearful hours researching and trying every natural remedy ever mentioned with no help.

ACV has been a miracle cure. I take 4 capfuls morning and night in a cup of luke warm water and use a straw and rinse my mouth with water afterwards to protect the enamel on my teeth. I still have a couple hot flashes but not every 45 minutes and all night long!

I also suffer from fibromyalgia & CFS - add the constant hot flashes and I was literally about to give up. I broke off my engagement to the most amazing and supportive man on earth to be miserable alone as I was so depressed and embarrassed and since I've been able to minimize my hot flashes and sleep better, I'm on the road to recovery with my fiancé's support.

ACV has given me back my life. This is the first letter I've ever written but I know there are people who are desperately seeking help as I did and felt I had to share my experience. It also helped shorten the length and severity of a UTI common with post-menopause.

You have nothing to lose and EVERYTHING to gain. Happy living!

It actually works !!!!!

Since the beginning of my pre-menopause, I've had hot flashes and insomnia. In my bio magazine, I was advised to take some Vinelem apple cider vinegar infused with herbs, and surprise, 2 days later no more symptoms!!!!

Finally, I can sleep!!!

It's like magic. I take 2 teaspoons of vinegar with water and agave syrup to sweeten the drink a little, twice a day, one of those times before bed and it works.

It's great, not expensive (8.5 Euros for a 750 ml bottle) and really effective.

I started drinking apple cider vinegar to prevent hot flashes from post-pregnancy hormones.

They virtually went away once I started drinking it, but then I also read that acv can help cure yeast infections. I struggled with these my entire pregnancy, and even after the baby was born.

I kept drinking the acv to keep the bacteria ratios in my body like they should be, and I haven't had a hot flash or yeast infection since! Wish I had known this months ago!

I had no idea that ACV would relieve hot flashes and night sweats!

I started using it for my cholesterol and belly fat! After a week I noticed my night sweats and hot flashes were disappearing! I was thrilled!

So I started to do more research on the benefits of ACV and read it can treat menopausal symptoms!! This truly works! It is fantastic! I even sleep better and feel great!

I mix 2 tbsp of Bragg Organic ACV with a cup of water and drink it once a day before my meal. I am amazed of all its health benefits! I will continue using it!

I am cured of the hot flushes (it was really unbearable!!!!) caused by menopause, thanks to the tonic of apple cider vinegar mixed in a glass of vegetable juice after lunch.

Approximately 30 minutes after that meal, I pour myself a large glass of vegetable juice (Garden Cocktail, 10 ounces approximately) and I mix in at least 3 tablespoons (45 ml) of apple cider vinegar. I then enjoy my drink!

I sometimes take the same quantity of apple cider vinegar during the day, this time diluted with water.

I am so happy! I used to wake up 5 or 6 times a night, soaked with perspiration!

I can sleep well now. My disturbing night sweats are gone!

Thanks a lot!
